Asbury
Park Chamber of Commerce
President, Daniel DiBenedetto
announced the
2008 Carousel Awards
recipients. The Chamber of
Commerce presents the Carousel
Awards to businesses and
individuals in Asbury Park in
recognition of their exceptional
contributions to the community.
This year’s honoree for the
Economic Development Award
is
Madison Marquette,
the retail and real estate
entity responsible for the
Asbury boardwalk’s commercial
and entertainment
redevelopment. Madison
Marquette was nominated for
their commitment to revitalizing
Asbury Park’s economy as well as
their commitment to the
community. According to one
nominator, “It is my sense that
Madison Marquette is here for
the ‘long haul’ and will provide
opportunities for economic
development into the future.”
The
Business Achievement Award
goes to
Market in the Middle.
Owner Marilyn Schlossbach is a
“successful businesswoman (who)
combines food and wine with art,
culture, civic and charitable
function,” according to one
nominator. “Market In the
Middle is a business that raises
the bar and sets a higher
standard for all the businesses
in Asbury Park.”
The
Spirit of Asbury Award
honoree is
Father David Stout of
Trinity Church. Father Stout
was cited for the unprecedented
growth of his congregation since
his arrival in Asbury in 2004
and the many outreach programs
he has been instrumental in
developing.
The
Landmark Business Award
is presented to
The Hardware Store of Asbury
Park. Located on the
corner of Main and Summerfield
for the past 20 years and owned
and managed by Sam Vaccaro and
his family, the store was cited
for its rare ability to thrive
and prosper in spite of the
competition from the “big box”
stores.
The
Public Official Award
this year goes to
Asbury Park Mayor Kevin Sanders.
Mayor
Sanders’ passion for Asbury
Park, the place where he grew up
and now lives with his wife and
five children, is apparent. He
has been instrumental in leading
Asbury’s economic and civic
rebirth.
The
Carousel Awards will
be presented at a dinner to be
held on Thursday, April 10, 2008
at the Berkeley Hotel in Asbury
Park. For more information on
