The play follows their sessions over several years as it moves toward a profound and poignant climax\, and poses the question – can empathy and compassion ever be taught?

DESCRIPTION:For his entire life Joey Harkum has been strumming a guitar and after a decade of touring as the lead singer and songwriter of Baltimore-based band Pasadena\, he released his debut solo album\, Love and Labor\, to critical acclaim in 2016.  Known for his deep and poignant lyrics telling stories of joy\, love\, loss and sadness\, Joey brings the human experience to life through his relentless tour schedule that culminated in the release of Live at Buffalo Iron Works in 2018. 2020 brought new challenges but Joey responded with writing and recording new music and released his album “Storyboard” in March of 2021. \nSpecial Guest: Green Knuckle Material  \n21+

DESCRIPTION:The first musical in the Axelrod’s Sondheim Centennial Project is this Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece\, regarded as one of the most acclaimed musicals of all time. The show was inspired by Georges Seurat’s pointillist painting\, A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte. The 1984 Broadway production\, starring Bernadette Peters and Mandy Patinkin\, was nominated for an astounding 10 Tony Awards\, including Best Musical.\nAxelrod’s Sondheim Centennial Project\, curated by Artistic Director Andrew DePrisco\, will present one Sondheim musical each year until Stephen Sondheim’s 100th birthday anniversary in 2030\, as well as concerts and showcases of living composers\, to honor the master’s commitment to new voices and the future of musical theater.
