SUMMARY:Wild Rivers Everywhere We Go North American Tour with verygently
DESCRIPTION:Platinum-selling indie trio Wild Rivers\, Khalid Yassein [guitar\, vocals\, keys]\, Devan Glover [vocals]\, and Andrew Oliver [lead guitar\, synths]\, have a gift for penning introspective lyrics and genre-fluid melodies that transmit wisdom beyond their years. That expertise can be found across their new album\, Better Now — a companion to their latest record\, Never Better.\nRecorded at the same time in Joshua Tree\, CA with co-producer Gabe Wax (known for his work with artists such as Soccer Mommy and Adrienne Lenker)\, both Never Better and Better Now are filled with the band’s “inventive melodies\, rich harmonies\, and lush instrumentals” (Associated Press) and reflect their personal and creative growth the past few years\, as they’ve faced burnout\, mental health challenges and the complicated\, confusing and unknown realities of life in their twenties.\n“On the first record\, the songs contain raw\, absolute and instinctual feelings\,” Wild Rivers shares. “In many ways\, Better Now is the afterglow of this. We’re reflecting and understanding that relationships change over time. Complicated situations can be just that\, complicated. Feelings can remain unresolved. If the first record is bright and bold\, this one is the softer gradients in between; the sunrises and the sunsets. Both projects make up the full spectrum of who we are.”\n“Finishing Better Now\, we really felt that it was the close of a massive musical and personal chapter\,” the group continues. “It’s bittersweet but so meaningful to be able to chronicle our lives between these projects. Ultimately\, we are optimistic; ‘better now\,’ after the ups and downs of the relationships and turbulence of our twenties. Hopefully we’re wiser for it.”\nBorn in Canada\, Khalid\, who is half-Egyptian\, and Devan\, who spent her childhood in London\, England\, before returning to Canada\, first connected at Queen’s University in Kingston in 2013. Starting out as an acoustic singer-songwriter project\, Khalid and Devan expanded their aesthetic to a more full-bodied sound\, adding multi-instrumentalist Andrew\, whom Khalid calls their “Swiss army knife.”\nSonically\, Wild Rivers pull from a spectrum of sounds\, imbuing pop\, rock\, indie\, and folk into each song’s blueprint. Devan explains\, “We all converge on the classic songwriters. Paul Simon\, Joni Mitchell\, Neil Young\, Fleetwood Mac\, The Beatles and Elton John. Then today\, we have influences across the map\, indie\, hip hop\, R&B\, and pop. But even in those genres\, most of those artists are referencing another era of music\, which we think is really cool. We like to pull our favorite parts of every genre and patch them together and see what works and see what feels good.”\nSince their 2016 debut\, Wild Rivers has released three albums including 2022’s Sidelines\, which landed at #9 on the U.S. Spotify Debut Album Chart. Released to critical acclaim\, Under The Radar praised\, “expertly straddles the lines between folk and indie\, offering an empathetic and enveloping comfort and a piece of poignant pop beauty\,” while American Songwriter declared\, “Soul-stirring…rich male/female harmonies bring the emotional lyrics to life.” Following the release of Sidelines\, Wild Rivers was nominated for Breakthrough Group of The Year at the 2023 JUNO Awards\, saw their breakout single\, “Thinking ‘Bout Love\,” certified Gold in the United States and Australia and Platinum in Canada\, and garnered over 850 million global streams. The group also spent much of their career touring across the world including countless headline shows as well as dates supporting artists such as The Chicks and Noah Kahan. Known for their engaging live performances\, Wild Rivers will continue to tour through this fall with their international headline tour\, which includes sold-out shows in Los Angeles\, New York\, Chicago\, Dublin\, Denver\, Atlanta and more. \n7:00 pm\n21+ admitted

SUMMARY:The Head and the Heart - Aperture Tour\, with Wilderado and Marfa
DESCRIPTION:on the Stone Pony Summer Stage \nAs The Head and the Heart toured behind their 2022 album\, Every Shade of Blue\, Jonathan Russell realized something needed to change inside the band he had cofounded a dozen years earlier: the entire songwriting process. Sure\, they’d had Platinum singles\, including “Honeybee” and “All We Ever Knew\,” but the tandem of success and encroaching adulthood had forced sometimes-unspoken changes over the years. Russell\, for instance\, often took on lead songwriting duties\, even bringing in outside collaborators to bolster his ideas. Their early band energy faded a bit\, a slight disconnect forming between the songs and the members\, even between one another.\nAperture\, The Head and the Heart’s sixth album\, is the affirming sound of their restart. After leading so much of the songwriting during the last decade\, Russell ceded that role to everyone\, shooing away siloed work for a highly collaborative approach where everyone hatched tunes together in a room or passed ideas between coasts. With every song fortified by the sense of beginning again\, Aperture is The Head and the Heart’s most vital and poignant album. It is the best work they’ve ever done.\nReally\, all of Aperture sounds like the work of a band reaching unimagined levels of camaraderie and mutual risk as one\, at once. A spirited homage to honesty and love\, “Jubilee” is like the sun suddenly bursting from the clouds. It bounces like a piece of pop-punk and arcs like a Springsteen classic. During “Beg Steal Borrow\,” The Head and The Heart’s trademark harmonies conjure communal aspirations. And there may be no better summary of this fellow feeling than the mighty “Arrow\,” a shout-along song about sometimes needing the space to roam and fail on your own and sometimes needing to be guided and helped by those around you. The Head and The Heart has finally found a way for its six members to find their own ideas and then build them\, together\, into something magnificent.

SUMMARY:Aidan Canfield with David Pugh at the Wonder Bar
DESCRIPTION:Aidan Canfield’s artistry infuses a unique combination of rock and country influences from the sounds that he grew up on – a little bit of Seger and Springsteen\, a little bit of Kenny Chesney meets Zach Bryan. His heartfelt lyrics and melodies have struck a chord of relatability he’s witnessed on the road on support dates with artists such as Riley Green.\nWhen the pandemic hit in 2020\, Aidan used the time to discover his passion for playing the guitar\, and he started singing and writing songs. In two short years\, he started growing a following on social media platforms and released his first single\, “The Idea Of Me\,” in April of 2022. Since then\, Aidan has released six additional singles\, an album and his music has nearly 3 million streams. Aidan’s heartfelt lyrics and melodies are what make his music relatable to his fans.\nFeatured in country music YouTuber and critic Grady Smith’s “Best Music Under the Radar of 2023\,” Canfield’s growing popularity has also led to his first CMAFest performance on the Hard Rock Stage and a feature on the Tidal Wave Festival in Atlantic City. \nDavid Pugh is a singer-songwriter based in College Station\, Texas. He started making music at 20 with the release of his first single\, With You Gone. After putting out two EPs\, he took a step back from performing and releasing music to focus on writing and finding his sound.\nNow\, after a few quiet years\, he’s gearing up to release his debut full-length album on June 6th. So far\, he’s shared three singles from the project—Alone\, Ready\, and Down the Line—which reflect a more focused and refined take on his alternative folk style.\nThe new music leans into honest songwriting with a simple\, polished sound—something that feels true to where he is now\, both personally and musically. \n$15 in advance (plus applicable surcharges)\, $18 at the door

SUMMARY:Dramarama at the Wonder Bar
DESCRIPTION:A DRAMARAMA WEEKEND\, AUG. 9 & 10 AT THE WONDER BAR\nTWO NIGHTS\, TWO DIFFERENT SHOWS FEATURING TWO GREAT DRAMARAMA ALBUMS \nOn Saturday the band will play Color TV in its entirety and on Sunday night the band performs Stuck in Wonderamaland in its entirety plus both nights feature your fave Dramarama songs plus tracks from each one of their albums. This has never happened before and may never happen again!\nRooted in distorted grit\, punk energy\, and American songbook eloquence\, and sporting three of the original “four-ish” members (“four-ish\,” you ask? Well\, they didn’t start out with a permanent drummer)\, Dramarama has always been both classic and cutting-edge. This iconic alternative rock group was formed in the basement of a record store in Wayne\, New Jersey by John Easdale [singer\, songwriter]\, Mark Englert [lead\, rhythm guitar]\, Peter Wood [lead\, rhythm guitar]\, and have\, for the past 18-plus years\, been joined by Mike Davis [bass] and Tony Snow [drums]\, who not only preserve but strengthen the spirit that established Dramarama as a history making force in 1982.\nAs the story goes\, John\, Peter and Mark traded New Jersey for Los Angeles. Long before the nineties alt rock radio boom\, the West Coast initially embraced the group’s single\, “Anything\, Anything (I’ll Give You…)” (off their 1985 debut\, Cinéma Vérité)\, as the de facto anthem of the nascent alternative nation. It notably made history as one of the most requested songs of all time on KROQ 106.7 FM in Los Angeles. It could also be heard loud and clear everywhere from A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master to HBO’s Entourage. And although Dramarama has yet to become a household name (still the next big thing)\, Easdale’s work has been cited as an influence on several major bands of the last three decades. \nOn the heels of Cinéma Vérité’s success the band delivered a decade of fan favorite albums: Box Office Bomb [1987]\, Stuck in Wonderamaland [1989]\, Vinyl [1991] and Hi-Fi Sci-Fi [1993]\, and after a 10-year hiatus served up Everybody Dies in 2005. As their legacy solidified\, more critical praise followed. The Chicago Sun Times christened them “one of America’s best rock bands” and the Los Angeles Times proclaimed Easdale “one of the finest singer/songwriters of these times.” And the praise continues as Dramarama’s latest release\, Color TV\, was named one of the Top 10 Albums of 2020 by legendary music journalist and critic Robert Christgau.\nThe band is having more fun than ever and exudes a confidence and ease that can only come through experience and mutual respect. As Easdale puts it\, “Few things compare to that sense of uninhibitedness you feel during a great show — waving your fist\, stomping your feet\, singing out loud and not [caring] about anything but the music. I’m proud to say that this is the feeling experienced by both the band and audience at the vast majority of Dramarama live shows — fast\, tight\, loud\, sweaty sing-a-longs. EVERY time we play\, the audience’s pleasure is our primary concern.” \nDoors: 7 pm\nShow: 7:30 pm \n$33.00 ADVANCE/$38.00 DAY OF SHOW (plus applicable service charges)\n21+ admitted
