DESCRIPTION:King Buffalo\nwith Ben Katzman’s DeGreaser \nKing Buffalo is the trio of vocalist/guitarist Sean McVay\, bassist Dan Reynolds\, and drummer Scott Donaldson. Since forming in 2013\, the self-proclaimed “heavy psych” band has made its name via 4 Full-lengths\, 4EPs\, and tours with Clutch\, Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats\, All Them Witches\, The Sword\, and Elder.\nWritten and recorded by the band with mixing and engineering by Sean McVay and mastering by Bernie Matthews\, the seven-song outing is the third in King Buffalo’s stated ‘pandemic trilogy\,’ following Two of 2021’s Best Albums in The Burden of Restlessness and Acheron. \nBoth of those albums – like 2018’s Longing to Be the Mountain\, 2016’s debut\, Orion\, and the various EPs and other offerings they’ve made over the last eight years – made bold declarations about who King Buffalo are as a band\, and Regenerator is no different. As McVay\, Reynolds and Donaldson continue to explore the outer reaches of modern psychedelic songcraft\, melding progressive rhythms\, drifting atmospheres and accompanying surges of electricity\, the new collection only further establishes them as one of the brightest lights shining in underground rock today. \nAs the third of three\, Regenerator seems inherently to tie together the two LPs most immediately before it\, and as King Buffalo unfold the leadoff title-track across nine and half minutes\, it becomes clear just how truly they have marked out their own sonic presence. The later melodic highlight “Mammoth” – with McVay’s most confident vocal yet – shimmers with hope that somehow doesn’t come across as desperate\, and as “Hours” engages classic space rock and the closing “Firmament” summarizes the first\, second and third series installments\, the final chapter of this trilogy becomes the essential cornerstone of King Buffalo’s work to-date. \nThe band returned to live activity\, touring alongside Clutch and more recently a full North American spring tour with Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats. By the time Regenerator arrived\, they completed a UK and European headlining tour with festival appearances in Germany\, the Netherlands\, Austria\, Switzerland\, Portugal\, Belgium and Denmark. \n21+ admitted

SUMMARY:Marshall Crenshaw: 40+ Years in Showbiz
DESCRIPTION:orn in 1953 in Detroit\, Marshall Crenshaw learned to tune a guitar at age 10. His first big break came in 1978 playing John Lennon in Beatlemania\, first as an understudy in New York\, then in the West Coast company and the national touring company. He settled in New York City\, enthralled by its diverse musical culture\, and formed a rock ‘n’ roll band with his brother Robert on drums and Chris Donato on bass. \nHe recorded his debut single Something’s Gonna Happen at nearly the same time as legendary rockabilly singer Robert Gordon’s recording of Marshall’s Someday Someway was released as a single by RCA. These two records simultaneously broke big on New York’s WNEW-FM\, causing Marshall and his trio’s local popularity to explode. \nAnd so began a career that’s spanned four decades\, 13 albums\, Grammy and Golden Globe nominations\, film and TV appearances (Buddy Holly in La Bamba) and thousands of live performances. \nMarshall Crenshaw’s musical output has maintained a consistent fidelity to the qualities of artfulness\, craftsmanship and passion. His efforts have been rewarded with the devotion of a broad and loyal fan base. Along with touring the country and the occasional recording session\, other current projects include producing a documentary film about legendary record producer Tom Wilson. \n“This is a road that I’d never imagined taking before\, but it’s been an incredible learning experience\,” says Crenshaw. \n“Although he was seen as a latter-day Buddy Holly at the outset\, he soon proved too talented and original to be anyone but himself.” — Trouser Press
