SUMMARY:Steve Hofstetter
DESCRIPTION:House of Independents presents Hofstetter \nAll ages \nAuthor\, columnist\, and comedian Steve Hofstetter is often called the hardest working man in show-business. With all due respect to the late James Brown. \nHofstetter’s national TV debut came on ESPN’s Quite Frankly\, where Stephen A. Smith yelled at him for three minutes. Hofstetter has also appeared on CBS’ “Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson”\, Showtime’s “White Boyz in the Hood”\, VH1’s “Countdown”\, Sundance’s “On the Road in America”\, and ABC’s “Barbara Walter’s Special”\, where he thankfully did not cry. He is the host and executive producer of “Laughs” on Fox networks\, where he only cries occasionally. \nOne of the top booked acts on the college circuit\, the original writer for collegehumor.com has also released six albums. Hofstetter has written humor columns for the New York Times\, SportsIllustrated.com\, and NHL.com\, where he publicly admitted to being a Ranger fan. \nAfter hosting Four Quotas on Sirius Satellite Radio for two seasons\, Hofstetter moved to broadcast radio\, and his Sports Minute (Or So) was syndicated on over 170 stations and in over 30 newspapers. Hofstetter’s second live comedy album (“Cure For the Cable Guy”) reached #20 on Billboard’s comedy charts. His third album (“Dark Side of the Room”) was the first ever pay-what-you-want” comedy album\, since people were going to steal it anyway. His fourth album consisted of an hour of 100% ad-libbed material\, which is\, frankly\, nuts. And his fifth album hit #1 on iTunes’ comedy charts\, which is also a bit nuts. \nHofstetter’s brutal tour schedule consists of over 100 colleges and dozens of clubs every year\, and is fueled by an immense online popularity\, tons of press\, and a Prius with great gas mileage. He reached 200\,000 friends on Facebook (still the world record)\, 400\,000 more on MySpace\, and high shelves in grocery stores. \nWhile Hofstetter’s live shows are routinely sold out\, he is best known for his writing\, first published at age 15\, mainly to impress girls. At 18\, he co-founded “Sports Jerk of the Week”\, an irreverent website featured by press like USA Today’s Baseball Weekly\, Sports Illustrated and CNN. And at 20\, Hofstetter took a year off of school to head up web content for the New York Yankees. The Yankees won the World Series that year\, which would have been wonderful if they hadn’t beaten Hofstetter’s Mets. Yes\, he’s also a Mets fan. Poor kid. \nWhile an undergraduate at Columbia University\, Hofstetter was a well-read columnist for the Columbia Daily Spectator and a voice of the Lions. After a summer writing for Maxim\, ESPN\, and Sports Illustrated for Kids\, Hofstetter syndicated his column in several newspapers. \nWithout his glasses\, Hofstetter also looks a great deal like Michael Rappaport.\n**VIP ADD ON DOES NOT INCLUDE TICKET**

SUMMARY:ZOMBIEWALK!
DESCRIPTION:CELEBRATING ITS FIFTEENTH YEAR\nARE YOU READY TO WALK LIKE A ZOMBIE? \nTHE 15TH ANNUAL ASBURY PARK ZOMBIE WALK IS ON SATURDAY\, OCTOBER 7TH! \n Join us on the Asbury Park Boardwalk for a day of fun\, music and of course… brains! \nWhat Is A Zombie Walk?\nA Zombie Walk is an organized gathering of people who dress up in zombie costumes and then converge quickly in a public area for surprise and fun. Walks usually in urban areas such as shopping malls or town squares. Participants arrive at a pre-determined time (often at a hidden location) and then emerge as a group to creep in a somewhat orderly fashion through shocked and amused crowds\, towards a final destination (usually a cemetery\, club\, bar or after party). \nDuring the Walk\, all participants are encouraged to remain in character as zombies\, lurching\, shambling\, dragging limbs and communicating only in a zombie-like manner (such as grunting\, groaning\, moaning and slurred calls for “brains”.) Zombie Walks are always free events. With the exception of Zombie Pub Crawls\, most walks are family-friendly\, so participants of all ages are welcome to join in the fun. \nSCHEDULE\n10/07/2023\nZOMBIES BEGIN GATHERING\n11am\nAsbury Park Boardwalk \nThe official Info Booth\, Merchandise Stand and Makeup Tent will open right along the Boardwalk on the 4th Avenue Green Space. 11 AM is also the beginning of Zombie Makeover time\, with Professional Makeup Artists working their spooky magic. \nWalk participants are welcome to attend in their own makeup \nor to patronize the makeup artists for a fee.

SUMMARY:Mapache
DESCRIPTION:Mapache \nRoscoe is a road dog. The 14-year-old Boston Terrier has been there for the whole ride of Mapache\, Clay Finch and Sam Blasucci’s band\, which has grown from being the casual project of two longtime buds to one of the most formidable cosmic-folk acts around. “Roscoe’s been through a lot of shit\,” says Blasucci\, the dog’s formal owner. “He’s been all around the country\, come on tour a little bit.” With some bemused pride\, Finch points out that\, for a few years\, he and Blasucci bunked together in a room in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles that was just big enough to fit two twin beds. “It was the two of us and the dog\,” he laughs. \nNaturally\, Roscoe has found himself the subject of a good handful of Mapache songs in the past—and on Roscoe’s Dream\, the band’s third LP of originals\, he takes center stage. (That’s him in quilt form on the album cover.) “I Love My Dog” opens up the album with a blissed-out stack of acoustic guitars and a lyrical explanation of one of Roscoe’s many talents: “I love my dog / Keepin’ the policeman out.” \nJust as much an easygoing trip with Gram Parsons into the desert as a mad dash with the Grateful Dead away from the law\, Roscoe’s Dream is the purest distillation yet of the distinct Mapache sound\, which has been brewing for many years now. Finch and Blasucci first met as students at La Cañada High School\, just north of Los Angeles: “There wasn’t much supervision or anything\,” remembers Blasucci. “It was really nice. And we got to just play guitars together.” \nThe two stayed friends through their college years—Finch went to Chico State and Blasucci spent two years as a missionary in Mexico—and eventually they ended up back in L.A.\, spending their days playing guitar together once again\, just like old times. Working with producer/engineer Dan Horne (Cass McCombs\, Allah-Lahs)\, they recorded two albums of originals (2017’s Mapache and 2020’s From Liberty Street) as well an album of covers\, 2021’s 3. Often trading solos\, and occasionally switching from English to Spanish\, Finch and Blasucci are now a well-oiled machine. \nSo when it came time to record Roscoe’s Dream\, they didn’t mess with the formula. The band booked some time at Horne’s Lone Palm Studio and called in a handful of friends to play additional parts\, including Farmer Dave Scher of Beachwood Sparks on melodica and lap steel on a couple tracks. The family affair has always been how the band likes to work\, but this time they approached it on a grander scale than before\, recording live as a full group in some cases\, as opposed to working over Finch and Blasucci’s initial guitar/vocal parts. “It was a bit more of a band experience\,” explains Finch. \nThe finished product is an ode to the past as well as a bridge forward. Covers of songs like Bo Diddley’s “Diana” and Gabby Pahinui’s “Kaua‘i Beauty” act as nods to heroes of theirs while originals like “Man and Woman” and “Pearl to the Swine” take the template of golden-age rock and lovingly deconstruct it in a modernist lens. “(They Don’t Know) At the Beach” was inspired by the idea of what trailblazing oldies DJ Art Laboe might like—but the gentle ripper of a song would fit right in at a backyard party in 2022. \nHard to imagine after years of being roommates\, Finch and Blasucci are also bridging forward in new ways themselves. After the album was in the can\, Finch decided to get a little closer to the water by moving to Malibu\, and Blasucci moved about an hour north to Ojai with his girlfriend (and Roscoe\, of course). But they’re not worried about the new distance slowing them down: “I think if anything it will be bringing more things to the table\,” Blasucci considers. “We’re just expanding out in different directions.” \n21+ admitted
