These boundary-pushing artists transform traditional techniques into bold cultural statements that challenge\, provoke\, and inspire.\nOpening May 24th and running through July 7th\, 2025\, this exhibition showcases the artists’ individual works that explore the intersection of punk culture\, environmental sustainability\, and traditional craft\, showing a commitment to DIY ethos \nWHERE COUNTERCULTURE MEETS CRAFT \nMcNett’s large-scale wood carvings and intricate prints stand in powerful dialogue with Venom’s punk-infused quilts and textile works. Both artists breathe new life into traditional techniques: \nDennis McNett (Wolfbat) creates immersive visual worlds through printmaking\, sculpture\, and storytelling. McNett’s community-focused work has been a part of the Wooden Walls Project\, with this yearly Residency in the Carousel House and his popular mask-making workshop and larger than life puppets. This past year\, Wolfbat invited his friend and collaborator\, Ben Venom to join him during his most recent visit to Asbury Park. Ben already had a connection to Asbury Park\, being featured at Parlor Gallery\, where he exhibited his dynamic quilts. During Ben’s Residency\, he led a patch-making workshop for the community. His art invites viewers into immersive worlds\, challenging traditional notions of art and culture. McNett’s work has been exhibited internationally in prominent institutions such as the Victoria and Albert Museum (London)\, the Museum of Contemporary Art (Jacksonville\, FL)\, and the Library of Congress (Washington\, D.C.). He founded Wolfbat Studios\, a nomadic\, community-driven workspace that has supported his ever-evolving creative process. McNett’s work has been featured in The New York Times\, Juxtapoz\, and Artnet\, among others. \nBen Venom is a textile artist who transforms the traditionally domestic craft of quilting into a bold\, countercultural form of self-expression. Drawing inspiration from punk and heavy metal music\, Venom’s work explores themes of personal history\, societal rebellion\, and environmental sustainability. Venom’s quilts are made from repurposed materials\, with each piece telling a story of transformation\, durability\, and resistance. His work has been shown at renowned institutions including the Levi Strauss Museum (Germany)\, the National Folk Museum of Korea\, and the Craft and Folk Art Museum (Los Angeles). Venom has been featured in major media outlets such as NPR\, Playboy\, and Maxim\, and has lectured at institutions including the California College of Arts and MASS MoCA. We have curated exhibitions throughout the city and beyond\, Partnered with Red Bank Design Center and launched art consulting services for hospitality\, corporate\, and residential spaces\, and provided private advisory services for collectors. DESCRIPTION:“Grace -N- Grit” Exhibition Honors the Legacy of Michael Longo: Artist & Friend \nIn a tribute to one of its most cherished family members\, Parlor Gallery presents “Grace -N- Grit\,” an exhibition celebrating the extraordinary life and work of Michael Longo.\nOpening Saturday\, October 26th\, from 6-10 PM\, this intimate showcase brings together Longo’s previously unseen works alongside pieces by 18 artists who shared his creative journey\, perspective and friendship. \nMichael Longo\, who passed away in April 2024\, known for his masterful paintings as much as his magnetic personality at Bond Street Bar\, Longo lived his life as an artwork in itself – full of beautiful contradictions. “He would tuck a small\, delicate flower behind his ear while bartending\, and simultaneously curse and possibly throw someone out for their bad behavior. These contradictions were endless and wonderful\, teaching us to accept all sides of ourselves.” -Jill Ricci (his partner in love and life)\nMichael embodied grace in its truest forms – both as a presence that honored every space he entered and as an expression of elegant\, courteous goodwill. Paired with his remarkable grit – that unwavering courage and strength of character – these qualities defined him\, shining brightest even during his illness.\nHe had many passions aside from visual art\, and he imbued all of them with the same attention\, care and adoration. Life as Art. Even during his battle with Stage 4 cancer\, Longo’s creative spirit never dimmed. When traditional oil paints became too toxic\, he adapted\, turning to gouache and watercolor. When neuropathy made his hands nearly unusable\, he continued creating in whatever way he could. \n“Michael’s development as an artist and person was inspiring. He spent every available moment drawing\, painting\, working on his cars and trucks\, cooking and learning. He kept some of these passions close to his heart\, but when he shared them\, they never failed to impress. Whichever version of Michael you knew or talents he shared with you\, he somehow made you feel important for it. SUMMARY:"No 15"- Parlor Gallery's 15th Anniversary Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Parlor Gallery is pleased to present a remarkable exhibition to celebrate their 15th Year as a favorite local Art Gallery and space for creative expression and exploration. In honor of their Anniversary\, the Gallery is featuring a carefully curated selection of gallery mainstays\, as well as artists that haven’t exhibited with them in many years and a few new members of their “Art Tribe”. \nMaking his gallery debut\, is Texas-based Artist\, Michael Wayne Hall\, whose abstract paintings and shaped wood wall hangings are grounded in his love of the flat-color aesthetics of screenprinting. The paintings often suggests transitions\, like the shifting of light or the passing of time and he deftly employs color gradients to imply motion\, shadows\, and depth. His work is always created by hand\, painted without the use of tape or masking\, thereby allowing wobbles\, smudges\, and other imperfections to remain. Recently Hall was commissioned by Facebook for a large permanent installation of his work to be added to their private collection. \nArtist David Wallace first exhibited with Parlor back in 2009\, and again in 2012. Recently he connected the curators with his new works and the gallery is thrilled to once again share his meticulous\, intelligent and impeccable mixed media collages with the world. Wallace uses vintage paper ephemera and text and layers his work\, the result of which speaks volumes about our History and our shared Humanity. \nGallery staple and local bon vivant\, Denis Randall\, is also returning with a deeper\, complex and more personal exploration of his traditional works of re-purposed wood and discarded items. His new work is created with old vinyl 45s\, vintage children’s books and vintage porn magazines. This collection is a visual exploration of his journey from childhood through adulthood\, and all of the messiness in between. The deconstructed pages are reassembled into patterns that create a dueling perspective between playful innocence\, curious experimentation\, and secretive voyeurism. \n“My intention is to first catch the viewers attention with familiar images of youth\, then lure them in to discover the recessed adult content. I want to share my experience of discovery with others who may or may not have gone through similar moments in their lives.” ~ D. SUMMARY:“Ladies to the Front”:  An All Women Art Exhibition and Celebration at Parlor Gallery
DESCRIPTION:A group art exhibition featuring an amazing gathering of female artists is set to take place at Parlor Gallery from June 17th to August 1st\, 2023\, with the opening night reception scheduled for Saturday\, June 17th from 6-10pm. This special exhibition will take place during the North to Shore Festival; an art\, music\, comedy\, film\, and technology festival hosted by three New Jersey cities: Atlantic City\, Asbury Park\, and Newark. \n“Ladies to the Front” is a celebration honoring the diverse and unique perspectives that women bring to the art world and to Parlor Gallery. The exhibition will feature works of art in a variety of media\, including painting\, sculpture\, photography\, installation art\, digital art\, and mixed media. Visitors\, art lovers and collectors will have the opportunity to view and purchase original pieces from a selection of talented artists. \nParlor Gallery is directed\, owned\, and loved by two women that have made It part of their mission to showcase\, support\, promote and collect art created by women and female identifying creators. Each year at Parlor Gallery\, we curate 6-9 exhibitions at our gallery\, with additional pop-up shows at alternative spaces locally. We have vowed to ensure that female creators are heavily represented in the overall curatorial programming. \nFemale artists have historically been underrepresented in the art world\, and they often face greater challenges in gaining recognition and earning a living from their work. . In major US museums\, less than 13% of artworks on display were created by women. Women artists make up only 2-5% of the art market and only 11% of art acquisitions at major US museums are works by women. \nArt has the power to reflect and shape culture; so\, upon learning of these statistics\, it became a priority to curate yearly exhibitions\, which focuses on local\, national\, and international women creators. “Ladies to the Front” will present the work of 50+ brilliant women\, their work hung in a salon-style presentation.  \nThe phrase “Ladies to the Front” originated in the punk rock movement of the 1990s\, particularly with the band Bikini Kill. The lead singer\, Kathleen Hanna\, would often yell “Ladies to the front” during concerts\, encouraging women to come forward and occupy space traditionally reserved for men in mosh pits and other areas of the venue. The phrase has since been adopted by feminists and activists as a rallying cry to promote gender equality and encourage women to take up more space in various fields. In the context of an all-female art exhibition\, “Ladies to the Front” could be used to promote the idea of showcasing women’s artwork and giving their voices and perspectives greater visibility and recognition in the art world. \nThe exhibition and celebration are open to the public and free to attend. They used this pedestrian medium for an exercise in free-form and experimental creative play. The Cardboard Show is the result: a collection of large scale sculptures and forms in three distinct voices\, united by medium\, friendship\, and a commitment to a playful approach to creating art for its own sake.  \nCome see what happens when three local artists and friends take over the gallery to create a collaborative cardboard installation using 50+ sheets of cardboard\, 300+ glue sticks and lots and lots of razor blades.
