BASIC at Asbury Jams with special guest Dave Hill – Wonder Bar

Prepare for a night of sonic exploration as BASIC takes the stage at Asbury Jams on June 26 at the Wonder Bar. This mind-melding trio β featuring Chris Forsyth, Douglas McCombs and Mikel Patrick Avery β crafts entrancing instrumental music that reimagines forgotten fragments of guitar history into a mesmerizing mosaic of strings, skins, and electronics.
Inspired by the experimental spirit of β80s side projects like Robert Quine and Fred Maherβs Basic, BASIC weaves together angular polyrhythms, pulsing basslines and shimmering guitar textures. Their sound is a hypnotic swirl of disorienting electronics, hypnotic throb and dense flanged-guitar harmonics, creating a unique conversation of textures and rhythms that feels both timeless and fresh.
What began as pandemic-era jam sessions has evolved into a fully realized project, blending influences from post-punk, avant-garde and experimental rock. With Forsythβs intricate guitar work, McCombsβ deep bass grooves and Averyβs inventive drumming and electronics, BASIC offers a live experience thatβs as cerebral as it is visceral.
Whether youβre a fan of experimental music or simply looking for something entirely new, BASICβs performance promises to transport you to uncharted sonic territories. Donβt miss this chance to witness their hypnotic soundscapes live at Asbury Jams on June 26. Grab your tickets now and join us for a night of boundary-pushing music thatβs anything but basic!
Special guest for BASIC at Asbury Jams is Dave Hill, a multi-talented comedian, writer, actor and musician known for his work on shows like Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Girls5eva and HBOβs Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, where his band Valley Lodgeβs song βGoβ serves as the theme. A Cleveland native turned New Yorker, Dave has also starred in his own series The King of Miami, contributed to This American Life and is the resident heavy metal expert on Malcolm Gladwell and Rick Rubinβs Broken Record podcast. Whether performing comedy, fronting rock bands, or writing best-selling books, Dave brings his unique energy and humor to every stage he graces.
