The Asbury Park African-American Music Project is pleased to announce that the Dorian Parreott Jazz Quintet will join us for the Vintage Turf Club Show: A Celebration of Springwood Ave. with Live Music at the Turf.
Extraordinary musician, educator, mentor and instrument repair expert, Mr. Dorian Parreott is a man of many talents and an Asbury Park music legend. Born and raised in Asbury Park, Dorian began singing in the children’s choir. He started the CuBops and played in talent shows, the Apollo Theater and auditioned on the Ted Mack Show. While playing with the CuBops, he started to move towards the saxophone as his main instrument. He attended North Carolina Central and majored in music. While in North Carolina, Parreott played in a band that performed around North Carolina. After returning to New Jersey, Parreott worked in instrument repair and taught music at Asbury Park High School for 23 years before becoming a professor at Kean University. Dorian is President of Local 399 American Federation of Musicians and served as president of the New Jersey Music Teachers’ Association. Dorian performs all over the Jersey Shore Region.
